Food inflation is at an all time high, driven by record prices for oil, gas and mounting global demand for wheat and corn, and proteins such as chicken. The high costs are escalating the hunger problem at a rapid pace, making daily staples that we often take for granted out of reach for many San Diego residents.
In the San Diego area alone, 480,000 people face the threat of hunger daily, and 181,000 are children under the age of 12 (U.S. Census Bureau).
The Hilton Family of Hotels in San Diego is joining forces to help fight this growing problem. On Friday, November 21st, we are hosting an auction benefit dinner at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines, proceeds from the evening going to San Diego Food Bank and to Network for a Healthy California to help feed the hungry in San Diego.
Our Mission
To reach out to our community and create awareness about the hunger crisis our world is facing, and educate the community on health and nutrition in their everyday lives. To become one as a culturally diverse community in recognition of hunger as an international concern, while creating an immediate focus locally.
Our Goal
The Hilton Family of Hotels plans to raise $500,000, which would be enough money to provide 166,000 clients with 1.5 million meals. It will also provide nutrition education to low-income pregnant women, single parents with children under the age of six, and fixed-income senior citizens.
